Pierre

7 x 10 inches, acrylic on canvas panel, 2010.

I've been struggling recently to find motivation. Somehow, some of the fun had gone. I decided maybe some experimentation was needed. I've painted almost exclusively in watercolor and gouache for as long as I can remember. In fact, bar a couple of small portraits I did a couple of years ago I hadn't used acrylics since I was at school (longer ago than I care to remember). I decided on a portrait because that's what I like painting best and faces and skin tones offer a challenge.

Tom

Our 16 year-old cat, Tom, was put to sleep today. He had been on medication for a few months for his kidneys and had seemed to be doing well. He had lost weight but suddenly seemed to lose even more and he had began to lose his appetite over the last week or so. He had become quite lethargic and just wanted to be cuddled all the time. We took him to the vet today and he felt a lump when examining him and recommended he explore further. He phoned later this morning to tell us he had found Tom had pancreatic cancer. It was decided the best thing to do was to let him go. As you can imagine we're pretty gutted - he was a lovely, sweet natured and friendly cat and we will miss him dreadfully.

Bathtime

Watercolour. 38cm x 47cm, 2005.

As I have nothing new to post I thought I would post some older work I did before I got blogging.
This is a portrait of my partner Mike taking a bath. It was included in an exhibition of large watercolor portraits I had back in 2006. It has a nice intimacy to it and it always makes me smile.

Mary

8 x 10 inches, watercolor, 2010.

This portrait was painted for a competition being held by a photographer over on the deviantART website, where he has asked people to paint images from photographs in his gallery. I chose a photo of his wife, Mary.

You can see his gallery and the original photo here.

A portrait of the beautiful Mary Tamm as the first Romana. Romana (or Romanadvoratrelundar, her full name) became a companion to the the fourth Doctor (Tom Baker), assigned by the White Guardian to assist the Doctor in his search for Key to Time which has been broken into six pieces and hidden in various disguises throughout the galaxy.
